How did the influenza pandemic of 1918–19 affect Philadelphia’s neighborhoods?

About this Event

Join the Mütter Museum and Hidden City Philadelphia for a virtual tour of Kensington in North Philadelphia that focuses on the Irish American community and textile mill workers a century ago. We’ll learn about rowhouses, mills, churches, and hospitals as we explore life before, during, and after the influenza pandemic that killed more than 17,500 Philadelphians in 1918–19.

*Virtual event details will be emailed to registered attendees.

Major support for Spit Spreads Death has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, with additional support from the Groff Family Memorial Trust and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
