We are very pleased to announce that the Wyncote Foundation, based in Philadelphia, PA, has awarded a three year grant to the Philadelphia Area Center for History of Science. This grant will provide core operating support through June 2017. This is the second award provided by the Wyncote Foundation, and will help the Center continue its progress as a leader in research and public outreach for the history of science, medicine and technology. The Center and its consortium partners are extremely grateful for this ongoing support which makes all of our other programs possible.
Congratulations to Christopher Jones (2008-2009 Research Fellow), who published his first book, Routes of Power: Energy and Modern America, with Harvard University Press in April 2014. Jones is currently Assistant Professor of History at Arizona State University.

The International Association for the History of Transport, Traffic and Mobility (T2M) invites proposals for papers to be presented at the 12th International Conference on the History of Transport, Traffic and Mobility, to be held at Drexel University September 18-21, 2014.
Papers may address any social, cultural, economic, technological, ecological and political perspectives on the history and future of transport, traffic and mobility. However, preference will be given to our conference theme: Spinoffs of Mobility: Technology, Risk & Innovation.
Community Legal Services, Inc. (CLS) seeks a highly motivated and independent graduate level student to conduct a research study for the Philadelphia Hoarding Task Force. The Philadelphia Hoarding Task Force was convened in 2013 to coordinate and expand the services available to people who hoard in Philadelphia. The Task Force seeks to reduce the incidence of severe hoarding and provide coordinated resources for people who hoard and their families.
The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant for Fellowship Programs at Independent Research Institutions to the Center, supporting our postdoctoral fellowship program. This is in addition to the Challenge Grant that we were awarded in December 2013.

The Philadelphia Area Center for History of Science has been awarded a $500,000 Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to create an endowment for its fellowship program. Requiring a 3:1 match, the resulting $2 million will be the first endowment fund established by the Center, and will provide a secure funding base for research, dissertation writing, and postdoctoral fellowships in the history of science, technology and medicine. The NEH Challenge Grant to the Center is one of three awarded within the state of Pennsylvania.
