The Academy has one of the largest herbaria, or dried plant collections, in the country. Learn why we collect, where we collect, and the ways in which we preserve plants for hundreds of years.


Go behind the scenes, where you’ll see some of the oldest and most important plant collections in the Americas. You’ll even try your hand at making your own herbarium sheet! Collection Manager Alina Freire-Fierro will delight you with her expertise, passion, and tales of research and collecting in some of the world’s most exotic places.
