The Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing and The Program in Public Health Ethics & History at the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University present the first in a series of interdisciplinary seminars exploring the history of seminal issues surrounding current issues in public health and ethics.
This symposium is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the publication of Beecher’s “Ethics and Clinical Research,” an article published in 1966 in the New England Journal of Medicine, which was instrumental in the implementation of federal rules on human experimentation and informed consent.
Keynote speaker, Susan Lederer, interrogates the implications of the studies that were edited out of this classic article.
Susan E. Lederer, PhD is the Robert Turell Professor of the History of Medicine and Bioethics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
