Hagley Library
Time: 9:30 a.m. to noon
Location: Hagley Library, Wilmington, Delaware
The Hagley Library will hold an open house on Saturday, October 11, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The event will be in the Copeland Room in the library, which can be accessed via Hagley’s entrance off Route 100 and Buck Road. Staff will be on hand with carefully selected materials from Hagley’s vast historical research collections related to the history of enterprise and technology. Library curators will be available to answer questions about Hagley collections and discuss some of their favorite treasures. Project archivists for the David Sarnoff Collection will discuss their work and display rare documents.
The event will include an introductory presentation from Director of Library Services Erik Rau followed by behind-the-scenes tours. The tours will give visitors a rare look at storage areas, where we keep millions of photographs as well as thousands of books and other historical publications. In addition, participants can see our conservation area, where library conservators will demonstrate some of their current work in protecting Hagley’s historical documents.
The open house does not require a reservation, but visitors interested in the behind-the-scenes tours are asked to reserve their spot by contacting Cheryl Jackson at cjackson@hagley.org or (302) 658-2400, ext. 239. Tours will be begin at 10 and 11 a.m., and additional tours will be scheduled if necessary.
This event is held in conjunction with American Archives Month.
