Abstract. This talk examines the history of Germantown High School, a comprehensive high school in Philadelphia, from 1914-1928. Kitzmiller argues that to understand the school's history one must move beyond the institutional boundaries and examine the school's connection with a wide variety of social service organizations that supported the community's youth.
