Producers of Useful Knowledge: The Women of Dr. Franklin, Citizen Scientist

Celebrate Women’s History Month with the American Philosophical Society Library & Museum as we explore our current virtual exhibition, Dr. Franklin, Citizen Scientist.

Join recent Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow and lead curator of Dr. Franklin, Citizen Scientist, Dr. Janine Boldt as we learn about how the past is female, too. Through the objects and stories in the exhibition, see how useful knowledge has been produced by people other than men of science. Abiah, Sarah, Sally, Deborah, Polly, and Jane--these are just a few women who have been pushed to the sidelines in the history of science.

 

Janine Yorimoto Boldt is the Associate Curator of American Art at the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was formerly the Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow at the American Philosophical Society and the lead curator for the exhibition Dr. Franklin, Citizen Scientist. She received her PhD in American Studies from the College of William & Mary and is the researcher behind the digital project Colonial Virginia Portraits.
