Science and the Election: Historical Perspectives

Jonathan D. Moreno is a professor of medical ethics and health policy, of history and sociology of science, and of philosophy. He is one of 14 University Professors in the Penn Integrates Knowledge program. Moreno is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine/National Academy of Sciences and is a national associate of the National Research Council. He has served as a senior staff member for three presidential advisory commissions and as an adviser to many nongovernmental organizations. He has authored eight books, the last of which, The Body Politic: The Battle over Science in America, was a Kirkus Review Best Books of 2011 as well as a Scientific American Book Club selection. Audra J. Wolfe is a Philadelphia-based writer, editor and historian. Her current research focuses on the role of science in international relations during the Cold War. Wolfe's new book, Competing with the Soviets: Science, Technology and the State in Cold War America, will be published in February 2013 by the Johns Hopkins University Press.
